Creativity in Full Bloom: Highlights from the Vhembe Craft Market – 13 & 14 June 2025

Over the weekend of 13–14 June 2025, the Vhembe Craft Market transformed the Thohoyandou Botanical Gardens into a vibrant celebration of creativity, cultural heritage, and local enterprise.

A Strong Start: Workshop & Jam Session (13 June)

The weekend began with a Creative Workshop and Jam Session on Friday, 13 June, hosted in partnership with the University of Venda School of Music. This powerful learning and performance platform brought together young musicians, vocalists, and creative entrepreneurs for a day of exchange, skill building, and live expression.

Facilitators from the university and the local music scene shared knowledge on music business, performance techniques, and creative collaboration. The day ended with a high-energy Jam Session, where emerging artists took to the stage and connected through rhythm and song — leaving the audience energised and inspired.

Market Day Magic: 14 June

On Saturday, 14 June, the gardens came alive once again for the main craft market. Attendees explored a vibrant mix of beadwork, fashion and art — all handcrafted by local artisans and entrepreneurs. The market didn’t just offer unique items; it served as a platform for economic opportunity, giving small businesses direct exposure and access to customers.

Families enjoyed live music, food, a kids’ play area, and nature walks — all in the beautiful setting of the Thohoyandou Botanical Gardens.
